This was another great episode. Yuki made a fantastic impact in this one after taking a couple episodes off. Alya was as cute as ever after her confession and we even got to meet the final member of the student council this time. And I appreciate that in each episode we just get a little bit more about these characters. It was a quick look at Masachika’s troubles with the idea of love and yet it’s easy to see that he can absolutely fall in love. It might just take a while before he and Alya are both ready to actually get into a relationship.
The Yuki antics are just a source of pure energy! This girl is a total blast and truly is a top tier younger sister. I’d say in this episode most of all you could feel the sibling energy and how important the bond between her and Masachika actually is. They’ve both clearly been through quite a bit even just considering the divorce of their parents. It is a good thing that their sibling bond and friendship is so rock solid. Yuki can goof off a lot but there’s no question how much she cares about her brother. And that goes both ways.
Good sibling vibes isn’t all that she brings though. Because holy smokes this girl is just ridiculous. I love that she intentionally set up the “walking in on someone in the bathroom” thing. She definitely was waiting in the bath and jumped out the moment he arrived. There was also an amusing amount of quipping between the two over that whole event. And surprisingly she did manage to drag out how much he actually did check out! And that silliness continued to the next morning with her ambushing him and Masachika being ready to bury Yuki under his bed!
I do appreciate that her honest reaction was a bit of regret over the election. Yuki did hope to be the one that could motivate him to throw himself back into that ring. So having Alya be the one that ended up doing it probably did sting a little. But on the other hand, having Masachika motivated at all was likely more important to her than anything else. If anyone could see how he was restraining himself and hesitant to get involved it would be his sister.
Not that Yuki is going to give anything less than her best. Alya may have scored her brother as help for the election but Yuki is still in it to win. And there’s no doubt that she’ll be a devastating rival. Alya has her strengths and weaknesses. Masachika is going to back her up but he’s still got concerns regarding his past. There may be stumbles on his part that Yuki simply won’t have to worry about.
This show just manages to get the details right. I love how Masachika argues to Yuki that sneak peeks are supreme compared to a full out show and then he gets a sneak peek from Alya the next day! The best part being that Alya has absolutely no idea what impact she can have! She doesn’t have the otaku knowledge of Yuki to pull off intentional plays like her, but she has plenty of natural charm that carries her quite well! Had no idea how her being so sweet and worried was hammering away at his ability to handle her. Being a bit tsundere and mad at him is actually a more comfortable place for Masachika at the moment.
For someone that was quick to wave off romance the previous night, Masachika can still appreciate the allure of a cute girl. I do get why he’s so hesitant to really look at Alya’s feelings head on. The nature of the divorce between his parents was clearly not a pretty one. Seems like his mother’s family was more well off and Yuki was left to take on the burdens that would bring. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if she stayed with the mother because she could afford the kind of medical treatments that Yuki might have needed at a young age. Masachika treated leaving with his father as running away from the Suou name. Although I do think it’s ok for one of them to have gone with their father. We still haven’t seen much from him yet. So far, his worst quality seems to be that he’s a workaholic.
The current Vice-President seems like a badass! I can see why the President felt like he had to work himself hard and shape up if he wanted a shot with her! Literally necessary since her embarrassed outbursts can do some damage! Seems totally worth that effort though. Honestly, I like the dynamic with Chisaki and Toya. They seem like a nice couple. And Chisaki is similar to Alya in that she knows when she’s taken it too far. Definitely a badass suited for a pure action series.
In some ways it’s good that Chisaki felt as if she needed to have a word with the soccer and baseball teams. Alya may have stumbled in trying to handle them, but they were being incredibly rude getting into a shouting match and ignoring the mediator entirely. It was a good learning experience for Alya anyways.
This time we got a cute ED focusing on the ladies of the student council. Just another good song and I like the ending putting some focus on the group as a whole. Because this episode really hit home for me that they are all great girls. This is a truly rare time when I just like everyone. Alya is a great Russian tsundere, Yuki is a godly little sister, Masha is a cute childhood friend, and Chisaki is an adorable powerhouse. It’s just a great group overall.
I had a good time with this. Things did settle in a bit even after that confession in the previous episode. But I don’t think we’ve fallen back. They are still going to make the push for Alya to become Student Council President and both of them are working through their feelings. If nothing else the dynamic between all the characters should keep me enjoying the heck out of the rest of the episodes. There’s always a surprise that gets me so I never truly know where we are going next.
