The New Code Geass Anime project has been named! It is known as Code Geass Gaiden: Boukoku no Akito (Code Geass Side Story: Akito of the Ruined Nation).

A breif synopsis of sorts is present at Moetron:

In this broken world, we still dream
a.t.b.2017
The hellish European front.
A small squad infiltrates enemy territory to save their allies.
That squadron’s Nightmare Devicers are boys and girls from Zone 11.
The mission’s chance of success is only 5%.
Why do they fight

Kawaguchi Yoshitaka had mentioned a new Code Geass Anime in the works, but little more than the name has been currently revealed. No word on what the format will be. Since this is a side story, All bets are off for this being a remake or a direct sequel to the Lelouch storyline. Lelouch’s story is probably done, and Akito is probably going to the name of the new character that takes the spotlight.

It is worth noting that the year is A.T.B 2017, and we all know that Lelouch and his rebellion began in A.T.B 2010. That means that, if you account for the events of R2, which took place a year after, then we’re still looking at a time line that takes place after Lelouch’s death/disappearance, and a good 5-6 years after at that. It definitely means that this is a continuation of the same universe as the previous R2 shows were.

Opinions on the new project are bound to be mixed, but rather than tread on sacred ground, Sunrise and Kawaguchi are probably taking the safer route and making a side story/spinoff series in the same universe. We’ll update you as we learn more.

Oh yea! Now that’s what I’m talking about!

There’s been a lot of rumors flying around about the continuation of the Code Geass series after R2, and I am soo glad this finally showed up! This ultimately proves that in spite of all those moe series being shoveled to the masses at large, some really amazing titles lie in production just waiting to be released! Even though it’s going to be a spin-off, chances are this one will have the awesome storytelling of the original series that we have soo come to love! ^_^

Agreed, I’m sure the story will be awesome. I still can’t imagine Geass without Lelouch though. He’s sorta like what Dante is to Devil May Cry, or what Solid Snake is to MGS, or what Edward Elric is to FMA. You can’t have those shows without those characters.

I would rather wish that Lelouch somehow be alive and play a role in the story. Takaguchi, the original creator, is producing the show, so I’m sure it will at least be by the same guy who did the original stuff, although he won’t be directing it, that much is certain =/

Uh, no. It’s not set *after* R2… Do your research – ATB 2017 is the timeframe of the FIRST season, when Lelouch first began his rebellion. And given this taking place on the “European front”, this is most likely a side-story revolving around the EU and Schneizel.

Technically lulu actually I isn’t dead

I wanna know if lulu still alive. The End of R2 is not that good… We want the next xhapter of lulu’s life story…..
