This episode opened up with questions that kind of distracted me the whole way through. It wasn’t a bad episode in and of itself. Absolutely was the weakest episode of the 4, but it was fine in terms of building up the team into something that more or less was a team. While it didn’t move the main story forward it was important enough for this group to come together. You can only get so far with Tomoro bickering with everyone at every moment. A status quo has to be established before anything else can move forward.
At the same time…what the heck are Glowing Dawn doing regarding the enemy digimon!? Fine and dandy that they don’t want to delete them. But what are they actually doing? Because it sure sounds like they aren’t handing in the digimon either. Are they at least handing in the Sapotama? Maybe, probably. They are sure 100% onboard with handing in the human owners. There’s only a few ways I can see this playing out. Either they are leaving these digimon free to regain energy and become threats again (which would be bad) or they are leaving them without a way to restore their energy and thus weakened and vulnerable. In which case they may simply get picked off by other digimon or by random cleaners that feel like picking on them. Either way…that doesn’t seem like a great way to solve the problem.
Honestly if there is a digital world (there should be) and they knew about it (which they probably don’t) then sending them back there would be fine. But as things stand I don’t think Glowing Dawn has a proper solution by which to play into their desire to be benevolent.
Reina does kind of suck at the mentorship thing. Thankfully she’s an easy tsundere. Just compliment her and she’s basically going to go along with whatever you say. I get that her screwing up on handling Tomoro was a good excuse to explain her background a bit. It’s just too bad that she basically had to be told something she should’ve already known. She’s been the person that no one wants around because they are a pain. And yet she didn’t realize she was being the sort of people that pushed her away until she was basically told so. It’s not a huge issue since people can be like that. But it’s just too bad they couldn’t have made that work in some other way.
I do get Tomoro’s issues though. Yes, he’s obviously 100% focused on his actual brother. It’d be silly to expect him to be anything else. I think that’s why Kyo is unbothered by Tomoro’s reactions. He gets it. Not only does he get it because it’s his friend that is comatose, but it’s just a fairly understandable thing. Tomoro’s family is hurt, Tomoro himself has been hurt, and he’s struggling to deal with people suddenly entering his life. But he knew it was important to help Tomoro get settled in and organized things to try and push that forward. The unfortunate reality is that Asuka’s situation is not going to be resolved anytime soon. They have no leads and their enemy is strong. Tomoro will be stuck with them for a while so best to find a way to help him fit in.
The action has been pretty good. Considering they seem keen on holding back Gekkomon’s digivolution until some future point in time…they are doing a decent job with current forces. Wolvemon is the only one that can hit the champion level right now which mostly leaves offense focused there. Gekkomon though as a rookie can still at times match that and can be the alternate win condition for this group. Chiropmon mostly acting as support. It’s attack can’t do much direct damage, but is weak enough to reliably be used against humans without killing them. The tactics have actually been pretty solid and generally hasn’t just been one person just going on the attack and everyone standing around dumbfounded. It’ll be nice if they can keep this up.
I am glad the group is coming together. They should be able to tackle immediate threats until the main story is ready to move ahead. What I would love is some more concrete explanations on how Glowing Dawn is handling things. I do appreciate that they want to have a no kill rule in place and that’s fine. But I’m not so sure on how they want to handle the Digimon they are dealing with. But maybe that will become crystal clear in an episode or two. Or maybe it’s actually really clear and I’m just missing it somehow.
