Score: A-

I had a feeling that I’d enjoy this show and the first episode didn’t disappoint. It wasn’t one of those episodes that blew me right out of my seat, but it was a really solid way to get the ball rolling. Nothing absurd happened in this episode. We just got to meet the main cast and establish the premise. I’m sure the action and drama is going to happen soon enough. Can’t wait to see what ends up happening to this cast of characters. No question though that there’s a lot going on with this cast behind the scenes. I’m feeling good about this show thus far.

It’s like magnetism with this guy!

While this guy may be a natural born loli seducer…I do like him. I’m really glad that he didn’t simply accept the duke’s desire to make Tina quit or secretly engage with her with the plan of making her give up eventually. That would have left me struggling to like him. But he’s going into this with an open mind instead. If he can solve the puzzle that is a girl who has magical potential but can’t use it then that’s fine. She should be able to walk down the path that she wants. But if he can’t solve it then that’s another thing entirely. If she can’t qualify under the standards to make it into the academy she wants then there’s nothing to really do but have Tina give up. That’s a perfectly solid way to approach it.

That’s certainly abnormal

Thankfully it doesn’t seem as if Allen will have to discourage her. Tina is plenty gifted. She nailed the written test without any problems. I suppose one good thing is that they won’t have to spend that much time on regular studying and we can just stick to the magic stuff. But that also must make it all the more frustrating for her to have such struggles with magic itself. If she had that then she wouldn’t even have to worry about a tutor. The good thing as well is that she clearly has the mana to cast spells and is mentally able to do what she’s supposed to. There’s just a very obvious interference that is stopping her. I presume even if Allen didn’t visually see that black disturbance around her that he will be able to figure out what’s getting in her way.

I don’t blame Tina for looking uneasy about the magical training or being a bit negative. This isn’t her first rodeo. Which is a sad thing. Had to go through a lot of tutors giving up on her before finding one that could truly solve her troubles. Well Allen hasn’t actually solved anything yet obviously. But there’s no way this guy doesn’t figure it out. He’s definitely the genius type that is absurdly far ahead of his peers. It won’t take that long for him to figure this out. Partly because this is clearly a light novel adaptation and the first volume should only take 3-4 episodes.

Good cast thus far

The characters seem nice and likeable thus far. Allen enjoys teasing the heck out of his students, but that’s fine! Tina got caught when it came to picking him up with the butler and he had all sorts of fun messing with her. Tina seems like a good girl. She’s definitely going to be the jealous/possessive type. Already having issues with Allen getting way too handsy with Ellie. That could be just being protective of her maid. But let’s be honest. She’s falling very fast for Allen and just doesn’t want him getting handsy with anyone besides her! I do like Tina though. She’s struggled plenty and yet clearly has dreams she wants to accomplish. I just wonder why she can’t use magic. Who did this to her and why?

Ellie is just a nice and cute maid. She’s absurdly clumsy…to the point where I’m amazed they trust her with anything. But she’s not a bad person. I do wonder where her parents are at. Are they also working at that place? I’m guessing not since we see plenty of her grandfather but no one else.

Curious if Tina’s dad knows more than he’s saying

This was a good first episode. There’s plenty of questions hanging after this that can be explored over time. Why did Allen fail court sorcerer exam? There’s just no way this guy actually messed that up. So who failed him and why did they do it? There’s as many questions about this guy’s situation as there is with Tina. Not expecting his red-haired friend to show up with many answers. She’ll definitely show up soon since Allen went and took a job like that. But there’s no chance she’ll know who failed him. For now I’m sure the show will tip-toe into the bigger questions. But this was a nice start.
