Score: A

Good start to a new harem series. Honestly I liked the overall visuals for this one and the characters themselves were nice and likeable. That included the lead. Arata is a good guy and while he’s a bit passive with his relationships (as you’d probably expect) he’s a nice enough person and easy to get behind. Can see the good side of his relationships with his family even if of course there are never ending hijinks when he gets picked on. But some messing around in a family isn’t that absurd so within my limits I could be fine with all that stuff early on. This episode nicely set things up and got the ball rolling on this harem craziness.

This girl is not holding back!

I did appreciate that everyone took the news differently and processed it in their own way. Ouka was completely understandable. They suddenly got this dropped on them during their sister’s birthday. Life suddenly got utterly bizarre and shocking out of nowhere. It is only natural to feel a bit betrayed! Poor Kotono really. Her birthday got completely hijacked by this news. I get that there probably wasn’t a good time to do so. But couldn’t he have told them in a day or two after? Sure in a sense this still worked out as a birthday present of sorts for her. She had clearly told Arata that she liked him back when they all thought they were blood-related! This girl was after the incest anyways. And now she knows that in a sense it’s a free for all!

Well not really. I’m sure Arata isn’t turning off his feelings on a dime. But I think they are obviously going to go with the idea that subconsciously knew that something was up here. That the attraction they feel for each other has some basis to it. Arata was already kind of leering at Ouka’s breasts back when they were not remotely in a romantic situation or aware of things. Probably will help that Kotono already seems locked in and I’m sure others will follow her lead.

Yeah, I like these two

On that note I did feel bad for Ouka back when they were talking. Yes, she did a not great thing you know…with the dog attack. But later on she was legitimately trying to help him out. But he was too defensive and embarrassed over it so he pushed her away and she just got a bit frustrated in return. But not so frustrated that she didn’t still thank him before leaving. Honestly, Ouka seems like a really excellent tsundere. From my perspective she seems like the easy early best girl. Will things work out for her? Who knows. But I do quite like her.

It’s a good group of characters

All the girls have their charms and the episode did a nice job setting them up. Banri is the elder sister that is pretty responsible in leading everyone. But she can’t help but tease Arata whenever she could Seiha is the super logical type that is also absolutely in love and can’t admit it! Shion will be the nice guy in the room since he’s a brother who is part of all this, but he’s actually dating someone so he’s “safe”! Ouka is the athletic tsundere who I think is probably the main girl in this scenario! And Kotono is the quiet girl who is probably the most bold as evidenced by the end of this episode. She may be quiet, but she’s going for it!

This started off well

I liked the opening episode here. The cast was good and honestly I liked the visual style. It was all very bright and upbeat. The cast are all distinct and I’m good with that! Things are feeling like they will build up in a good direction. Not sure where things will end up, but this is an adaptation for an ongoing series so it probably won’t conclude anywhere. Can’t wait to see how the various siblings start to rationalize their situation and consider options they normally never would have. This was a feel good episode and I’m going to keep watching. Whether I pick it up though is hard to say at this point. But this really was an enjoyable first episode.
