Score: A

Even the show itself couldn’t help but note how long we’ve been waiting for season 2! The previous season ended in December of 2023 and now in January of 2025 we are back! Good on the show for having some fun with that and showing that it will still have fun with its very existence! That and as much blushing as a person can possibly handle! The more characters we add the crazier it’s going to get! And a good sign in this episode is that they will do their best to balance out introducing new girls and giving the established girlfriends their time in the sun. Can’t just go from new girlfriend to new girlfriend or it just won’t feel right. And Rentarou is nothing is not the ultimate boyfriend that will find a way to make everyone happy!

This was fun

I liked opening up with the body swap gimmick. It was ridiculous, dumb, and pretty darn cute. I don’t blame Rentarou for getting swept up in the moment since all the girls acting differently was amusing. Great stuff like Shizuka inhabiting Karane and letting her go absurdly demure. Or just swapping over to Nanao inhabiting Shizuka’s body and being completely stone cold! Characters are of course designed with their personalities taken into account to some degree. So, swapping around like this was rather fresh and fun.

While it was a great bit of fun to shake things up, Rentarou still got the win. Nothing like saying that the girls are the best when they are themselves! This guy is just good and always having hearts swoon in his presence. It’s also fun to note that we very much are continuing the kissing fest that was the original season. These characters are absurdly in love with each other and all actively dating. Naturally there won’t be any easing up on their romantic moments. The only time it’ll slowdown is when the focus needs to be on the next incoming girlfriend.

A girl of extremes

Welcome aboard Haraga Kurumi! This season starts off with some spice! We got another somewhat tsundere type, but Kurumi is mostly a hungry character! Truly hungry and angry is a good way to describe her. She’s a really nice girl most of the time, but the way her body operates leaves her constantly in a foul mood. There’s just an overwhelming desire to eat and that’s combined with a desire for specific things. It’s so bad that she tries to keep herself shut off from the world around her so she isn’t constantly being hit by completely niche desires.

They did a good job in making her another girl you feel truly needs to be with Rentarou. Her suffering was handled well in this episode. You could feel how her hunger was making her increasingly frustrated, but also how she hated herself for being that way. As time went on, she was going to just hate herself more and more. Kurumi needed someone like Rentarou to point out some of her good qualities and make her happy to be who she is. I’m sure she never imagined that she’d suddenly fall for a guy, start dating him, and find out she’s one of several girlfriends!

I still amazed that she joined the harem!

I’m sure we will slow things down in a way to enjoy the food fight festival. There’s no point in rushing into the next girlfriend after just adding Kurumi. The series seems to have a good sense of pacing and the need to actually incorporate each girl into the group. We know already there will be four more girls added in here. We’ve managed the first in just the first episode. Presuming we do 12 episodes again that does leave 11 for the remaining 3. They can’t take too much time, but they can at least give an episode or two for Kurumi to get used to the group. Right now, she’s naturally only focused on Rentarou. But they all get along (some more than that) and it’ll be good for her to have that kind of support.

Here’s to a new season!

This was exactly what I needed from the return of this franchise! It was fun, cute, and I liked the addition of Kurumi to the group. The charm of this series comes from all of that working nicely. Rentarou is one of the very few harem leads that I truly like having a harem. There’s no doubt in my mind that he both deserves that and works hard enough to make everyone happy. Whether or not I’ll pick this one up I’m not sure. It’s definitely one I’m going to love. But tough choices to be made!
