A year after the start of the war between the Naturals and the Coordinators began, the Gundams are brought out into battle when an operation by Zaft (the Coordinators) to steal the Gundams results in a young man named Kira Yamato piloting one of the giant mobile suits.

Asuran Zara, Kira's best friend from the past is one of the Zaft officers who was in the raid of Heliopolis to attain the Gundams.

Even though Kira is a Coordinator, he chooses to stay with the Earth alliance to protect his natural friends from danger.. Meaning he will have to fight Asuran. What began as a war between two different types of humans is now a war between best friends
