Score: A-

Kanan remains a treat and it’s easy to see the potential once more of the cast are introduced. At this point the story is still in the slow burn stage. Just getting settled into the relationship of Kanan and Youji. And that’s more than enough for the time being. Kanan’s over the top reactions are enough to keep things fun, especially once she has reasons to start getting jealous and possessive. It’s all the more enjoyable since that really does force her to embrace her feelings a bit more and at the very least hold firmly onto the relationship that she never planned on getting into!

Just…wow!

The Kanan family situation is just kind of wild. She is just regularly brainwashing these people! Good god, the expression of Kanan’s “mother” during the hypnosis! I hope there isn’t long term consequences of these people having their minds rewritten so often. It’s kind of great that it doesn’t have a permanent hold. Kanan will have to keep up with it and that could create some drama eventually. Part of me I suppose feels for them since they do have those moments of lucidity and confusion, but…I suppose Kanan isn’t doing any permanent harm? Yeah, I’m definitely stretching here. But I suppose Kanan is a demon at the end of the day. So that level of evil isn’t about expected.

This girl is a threat!

Guess they aren’t the only people dealing with memory augmentation though! Not after the debut of Ami! That girl is a menace! Kanan at the end of the day has mostly been rendered harmless thanks to Youji. But Ami is pretty darn open to anyone and doesn’t mind draining every soul in sight! Kanan only barely managed to put restrictions on her. She’ll only be attacking the school staff instead! I’d ask why no one has a problem with this random maid walking around the school…but then I see people collapsed in the hallway and that question is immediately taken care of! Of course no one’s got a problem with it. They are either KO’d or having their memories adjusted.

And Ami is a good source of fun in the story. She’s happy to both tease the heck out of Kanan and celebrate this incredibly old being finally falling in love for the first time! Pointing out once more that this is one heck of an age-gap relationship! If nothing else she’s watched Kanan for a long time and can appreciate how this is such a big thing for her. With her position I’m sure she’s supposed to be against Kanan getting involved with a human. But seeing her “girl in love” expression? Easy enough to support her while enjoying…Kanan’s teacher!

Handling his girlfriend well

The Kanan and Youji stuff remains good and fun. I thought for a while that Ami had put some charm on Youji to turn him into a harem protagonist. But apparently he always had that much game! He just didn’t notice the signals until Kanan magically dragged him into her orbit! The guy does seem completely loyal though and that’s great. But it does show that Kanan has more to be worried about than she thought! Plenty of girls willing to make their move if she lets up. The great thing is that Kanan is so busy being jealous that she isn’t able to remind herself that she’s supposed to only see Youji as food!

Damn, she had quite the episode!

This show is just nice and fun. The best part is that there’s plenty of room for things to improve once we get a bigger supporting cast. The foundational relationship is good and there’s plenty to enjoy with it. But once we get some more friends and family into the mix…things should get even better. All the more so once we see how Kanan’s father reacts to all this. The guy seems pretty chill…though constantly eating. Is he going to blow his top over this? Maybe, he does seem to love his daughter after all. Whether he considers this guy to be worthy of her will be key. Still not 100% sure if I’ll stay with this show or not. But the second episode was plenty entertaining.
