Another solid first episode for the winter season. It’s nice to jump into a setting like this one. In a lot of cases the supernatural is very secretive. But in this show you just have invisible men walking the streets and running detective agencies. We may see that there is some real tension under the surface, but no sign of that in episode 1. Not that this episode had time for anything beyond showing off how fun and cute the protagonists are.
This show was one I was curious about when I saw it on the previews. It’s a cute idea and one that can work nicely. The man that is invisible and the girl that can’t see anyone. In a way he’s as invisible to her as he is to anyone, but on the other hand he’s the same as everyone else to her. No reason to treat him differently because he’s invisible. I know of course that in a sense he’s more visible to her than most people. The start of the show made that point with noting her having good hearing and a keen sense of smell. She’s one of the few people that can find him even when he goes full invisible.
It’s also nice how the show tries to explore her perspective in spots. Mostly in regards to Akira speaking to her. A nice visualization of him in her mind. Although it does seem to lead quite a bit to her getting embarrassed and rattled. That is a given of course. Doesn’t have a grand romantic history to draw from and thus much of this is brand new to Shizuka. Akira being a total gentleman probably adds to it. He’s very smooth, capable, considerate, and has a confident voice.
Episode kind of showed how dangerous being an invisible man can be. It’s a fair point. It’s not like he’s invisible to everyone but visible to himself. If he’s hurt…he can’t tell how badly. Wounds are somewhat visible due to the blood clinging to them. But whether it’s a small scratch or a rather deep wound is harder to gauge. Has to work off of pain levels, and just how much blood he’s lost. That’s kind of scary really. I totally get Shizuka getting upset and worried about how hurt he was. How things went with the job was a secondary concern. It is nice that the job worked out alright, but it’s a reminder how dangerous his life is. Surgery is just out of the question right? There’s a lot that he simply can’t engage with.
We haven’t gotten to know the supporting cast that well yet, but they seem fine. It has good balance. To match up with the human woman you have a beast woman. And to contrast the invisible man you have a regular looking guy. I’m not 100% sure on their specific roles in that office, but clearly they are part of the operation. Maybe the other guy is a tech person while they have the beast woman doing more physical jobs. Either way, they seem nice. Both of them are pretty considerate and are used to having Shizuka around. Not drawing too much attention to her being blind. But just letting her know where they placed her coffee or her earbuds. Just considerate stuff.
In a sense there’s not too much for me to say beyond the fact that I liked it. This was cute and endearing. Things are absolutely progressing. The leads are clearly into each other, going out on dates, and it’ll be fun to see things continue to grow. The title kind of says it all anyways. This is going all the way. And we get to enjoy the ride. Another show I probably won’t pick up for the season. But there was no way for me to avoid talking about it!
