On March 13th it was announced through the Official Precure Website that Yes! Precure 5 and Mahou Tsukai PreCure would be receiving anime sequels. With Power of Hope ~Grown-Up Precure 23~ (the sequel to Yes! Precure 5) would be airing in October. The sequel to Mahou Tsukai PreCure only being confirmed for a 2024 release.
These two sequels were announced as being intended for the adult audience that has grown up with the Precure franchise. A franchise that has reached his 20th anniversary this year. “Yes! Precure 5” aired from 2007-2008 and was followed up by a direct sequel Yes! Precure 5 GoGo! in 2008-2009. While Mahou Tsukai PreCure aired back in 2016-2017.
Both sequels are a surprising and interesting announcement. I wasn’t as invested in “Yes! Precure 5” and will admit that the Mahou Tsukai PreCure announcement is far more exciting for me. I will say these choices make excellent sense. Mahou Tsukai PreCure ended with a time skip with the main girls having grown up. So it is a pretty perfect choice for a sequel series aimed at showing off an adventure for adult magical girls. That series being magic focused also lines up pretty well the main cast returning to some sort of fight. This announcement has me pretty excited and I look forward to seeing how these shows both turn out.
