There’s no doubt in my mind the Spring season is going to be salvation after the bleak existence of winter. That’s not to say there weren’t good shows….but there was not enough of them. In comparison the Spring season is almost like a paradise. Spring is usually a pretty big hitter in terms of giving a lot of good shows, and that seems to be the case again. Here are shows that I’m both anticipating and have something of substance to talk about. I fully expect that a lot more shows than these are going to surprise me and have me wanting to watch them every week. The start of a season is always a fun time in terms of sifting through the mass of new shows to find some favorites. So here are a few shows I’m anticipating and some of which I’m likely to end up covering once they actually release.

Most Anticipated Series:

Baby Steps 2
This is certainly a show I’m looking forward to seeing once the spring season hits. I’ve been looking forward to a continuation of the first season since it ended. This is a series with a lot of source material so the whole second season should be fun for anyone who watched the original. We saw in the first season how Maruo grew from a guy who didn’t know a thing about tennis to someone who was incredibly drawn into it. But his growth in the sport was both slow and believable because of both his naturally good eyes for the sport and also his notes. A really stubborn character who was willing to spend hours repeating the same actions until he had them down properly. That’s the kind of person who can grow in a sport pretty quickly.

Digimon Adventure tri.
If this show airs on time then it would easily be one of my most anticipated shows of the season. In a way it’s the third season of the original Digimon series and in others it’s a more direct sequel to the very first season. There isn’t that much known about it really outside of the fact that it will focus on the original cast and less the extended cast that was created with the second season. This is a series that is going full nostalgia going back to some of the earliest anime I can remember watching. One again Tai will be the lead just that this time he’ll be in high school. I’m curious to see how the story unfolds for this season. The world was changed dramatically by the events in the second Digimon Adventure series. No matter how it turns out that nostalgia factor will make it worth checking out.

Hibike! Euphonium
This is probably a show where my interest is more subjective than anything else. Mostly my interest for this show comes from the fact that I play the Euphonium. Not exactly the most popular instrument in the world compared to trumpets, pianos, etc. It just seems interesting to see that kind of instrument be attached to a main character. The show itself looks pretty solid. This is probably the show that I have little solid reasons for being excited about, but the personal reasons are enough. In the end a brass band with some drama seems like a good show to keep on the radar.

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works 2nd Season
This one barely needs any explanation. It was easily one of my favorite shows in the past year and one I enjoyed blogging in the fall season. This show just has so many things going right for it. It’s a visually spectacular show with some incredible budget being put into place. The cast is pretty good and I’m enjoying the extra focus on Rin during this Fate/Stay Night arc. The action has been good, the music has been good, it’s just been really good so far and I’m sure the second half of this story is going to really turn out well. The first half in a lot of ways was building up for everything to just go nuts in the second half so I’m looking forward to this show a lot for that reason.

Series of Moderate Interest:
Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka?
This show has my attention because it very much is a fantasy series. An old school kind of setup where you have adventurers exploring dungeons and making a living doing that. A young main character who is starting from the bottom and is going to work his way up to becoming a top notch adventurer. Just based on a genre point of view it’s a show that will be on my radar. At the very least it seems to have the pieces needed to be a solid watch each week. A young hero starting out, an ideal for him to aim for, and a girl closer to him that is acting as support. Hard to say if it will be great, but I expect it to be solid and hope it surprises me from there.

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha ViVid
There’s another one that’s mostly on the radar thanks to some nostalgia. Nanoha has always been one of the standout mahou shoujo series in my mind. It’s not as insanely bleak as say Madoka, but it has enough seriousness and weight to it. The first two shows were pretty good and StrikerS had some solid moments to it. That show may have tried to do too much with a large cast, but it was still a good show at the end of the day. This one seems to pull back more to the first season. Taking off with Nanoha’s adopted kid Vivio and her adventures as a young but clearly talented young mage. That seems like a fair place to go. Can start off with mostly a new cast focusing on Vivio and seeing where her adventures would go. I did like the main cast quite a bit, but a change of pace isn’t a bad thing. I’ve only seen a few chapters of the manga, but it looks good. It doesn’t seem to be nearly the kind of scale even the first few Nanoha shows had, but I’m still anticipating it and looking forward to how it will turn out.

Final Thoughts:
This season has a lot of shows that have caught my interest and haven’t even been mentioned here. Shows like Ore Monogatari!!, Owari no Seraph, Plastic Memories, Yamadakun to Nananin no Majo, amongst others. This season has a lot to be excited about and I’m sure there are shows that I haven’t even mentioned here that will completely surprise me. There usually are some of those shows in any season and this one is unlikely to be any different. While I can’t confirm what shows I might end up blogging this season, there’s a good chance I’ve already talked about some of them here. Like with any season I find the first shows I’m most excited for are going to be sequels because I know what I’m getting into, but again there will be surprises. Here is hoping that the Spring Season lives up to expectations.
