UPDATE:

The Actual Disc release of the first OVA is actually set for January 2013 for Blu-ray and DVD in Japan. It is, however, already available on the Japanese PSN (PlayStation Network). The original August release was just for Japanese theatres. We should have an episode review out soon!

A new promotional video is out for the newest anime incarnation of Code Geass, Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito (Akito the Exiled).

Originally believed to be season 3 of the ever popular Code Geass franchise, Code Geass: Akita The Exiled is actually an OVA series, with its first episode coming out on August 4th 2012 in Japan (Only 2 weeks away).

On a related and more interesting note, There was an advanced screening of the OVAs held in Japan a few weeks ago. Fans who saw this screening are reporting that not only is there evidence that C.C (C2) from the original two series is set to make a return in the second chapter, but Suzaku also makes an appearance in this OVA series as well.

Sadly no other returning charaters have been confirmed, especially fan favorite and series original protagonist Lelouch. Zero is, however, mentioned as having been executed in the trailer:

  I didn’t change of mind, Code Geass without Lelouch is not Code Geass. I don’t care about C.C. (I know she is overrated, but I don’t fancy female characters obviously) and Suzaku is just bleh for me (I know he is pretty hated and not for puny reasons)
  Tch, right the first series which I loved the protagonist he gets killed in the end. I should have known before, all my favorites tend to die in the end.

    It’s an OVA with only 4 episodes, but each episode is 50 Min long, all in all it equals to about 12 episodes.

    I don’t think they (Makers) will do anything with lelouch (sadly) for the next year or two (At least)

    because the episodes are being released 6 months at a time, plus they (Makers) probably want to leave lelouch in the past but i say that the fans will make them (Makers) do another series with lelouch in it.

    Personally i want lelouch to comeback no matter how stupid the series is.

    And thats what they did. They call this “Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito” NOT “R1 or R2 or R3″ for that matter. This is a series with same basic rules (meaning Geass) and prob has some influence from R1 and maybe evan R2 but setting is different.
    So why call it something else when it is Code Geass? This story is about Akito. If the named it just “Exile of Akito” or sth then all you Lelouch fanboys/girls would be in uproar that they are copying Code Geass.

    Just enjoy good anime and stop whining.

  Why so many idiots? It clearly said that SUZAKU and CC are BACK. They ARE in these new eps. It also is NOT a R3, you can only describe it as R1.5 because the action in these eps happen between the seasons 1 and 2 – meaning SPOILER ALERT: Lelouch IS alive in here. During these eps Lulu is without his memories and the society believes that Zero is dead. Remember how the 1st season ended.

  Why so pesimistic about watching it?
  #1. Maybe even without Lulu they can reveal the truth of his fate in R2. Akito in the 1st ep gave hope SPOILER ALERT:Akito has geass in both eyes and said that he can hear the dead because he died once before (NOTE: this is a R1.5, NOT a R3) However, he can give clues as to what really happened to Lulu in R2. Also maybe Lulu suffers the same or similar fate in R2…
  #2. What do you know, he may show up.
  #3. It can be a good show even without Lulu.

  At first I thought it was a total fan dub because the blue hair guy in the above screenshot has the same hair style like Gheno. As well, this form of Code Geass is much to much of a transition. I have been well proven by the evidence that Lelouch is alive (cart theory, immortality theory, Orange man theory, etc.) so why not bring the iconic lelouch back into the frame?

  Yet, the biggest problem for R3 is what is the conflict? Lelouch won! He defeated everyone and even himself, the greatest enemy to man is himself and Lelouch was able to accomplish that! So, what would be the meaning of R3? Lelouch goes up against a alien invasion? Lelouch had fought for a world, build a world, and controlled a world all so that the world he lived in could be capable to exist in a unknown future without boundaries and supremacy.

  So, Code Geass R3 is really just a meaningless idea. Yet, I wish I could savor Code Geass again and again. Its such a masterpiece, but all great anime must come to a end. Code Geass is not like Bleach or Naruto, where the series goes on for 300 and more episodes. If Code Geass had a R3, it would ruin its perfect reputation. I say this in regard, that all peace and balance has been establish in the series, nothing more can come.

  noobs… it actually is pretty good. Also this series takes place before lelouch “won” . Take it like an ” extra stage” ( like in Initial D or sth) except it doesnt suck. At this point lelouch is overrated. Sure I like the guy I mean he is/was a genius and I will look forward hoping he would return.
  But meanwhile this is a really good boonus. And I wont say no to more of this.

  PS. If you dont like it then dont watch it. But then it proves that you dont really care about the story and series and losing “you” wouldnt evan be a loss. Since then it proves you are not and were not interested in the story and series but are just overhyped how Lelouch “owned” in season 1 and 2.
  For me it was strange that Europe was still independent so i want to know more about the “series” not just how one “dude” lives.

  the setting of this ova is between R1 and R2.. so at this point in their time, Lelouch (Zero) has an amnesia.. So that’s probably the reason why it’s only C.C. and Suzaku are the ones who will appear in this video. and BTW in my opinion, there’s a point why it is still called Code Geass even without Lelouch, because the story still has its connections on geass (the reason why C.C. should always show up in any type of Code Geass Season, she is the only carrier/giver, aside from V.V. [not sure if he still has it] and Charles) and its right not to call this R3 because R1 and R2 evolves on how Lelouch (by the help of the geass given by C.C.) creates a better world while this is a new side story on the war happening in the world.
