The Official Japanese website for the upcoming Fairy Tail Movie, Fairy Tail: Hōō no Miko (Maiden of the Pheonix) began streaming the second teaser trailer two days ago.

The Trailer can be viewed below:

With the release of the trailer, some new details regarding the Plot of the movie have come to light:

The key question that the movie seems to be focusing on is: “Does Magic cause misfortune?”

The story revolves a young woman named Ecclair (All bets are that she’s the Maiden of the Pheonix) who appears before Fairy Tail. With no memories other than the knowledge that she must deliver two Pheonix Stones somewhere. Natsu, Lucy and the rest of Fairy Tail are quickly caught up in a struggle that may spell the collapse of the Magical World of Earth Land itself.

Fans will be quite interested to know that the movie’s story planning and visual design is being handelled by none other than Fairy Tail mangaka and creator Hiro Mashima. Masaya Fujimori (You Are Umasou) is directing, and Masashi Sogo (Fairy Tail, Bleach, Rurouni Kenshin) wrote the screenplay.

This first ever Fairy Tail Movie will open in theaters in Japan on Augst 18th 2012. US and other territories will probably see a release around 6 months later, when the Blu-ray/DVD versions come out and are localised in English.

Until then, we’ll keep you posted on any new developments. Based on the second teaser trailer though, what are your thoughts on the second movie? Yay? Nay? Let us know in the comments below!

I’m, like, completely indifferent. Typical lost pretty girl which hangs out with the mains and then blah blah bad stuff happens because of her, causes the world to ruin, Natsu and Lucy gotta save her and protect teh world…..overrated plot. No offense.

    Not interested.

    • setsuken

Had a feeling you’d say that XD.

At the very least it doesn’t seem as Natsu x Lucy centered as the last teaser seemed to hint at.

If the movie’s to be localized, they’re probably gonna have to localize the second season first. As we all should know, Funimation is the biggest bet for a North American release. Though there HAVE been times when movies to licensed series were released with simply subtitles.

Heaven forbid Animax gets their hands on it… I am NOT fond of their take on it, even if it IS meant for Asian audiences. It’s like what the Philippines did to Yu-Gi-Oh, except it’s occasionally more faux-European.

    • setsuken

I think it would be highly odd for anyone but Funimation to handle the localization, given that they hold the current license for the series.

There could be a small chance of some company like Sentai Film Works taking it on, but honestly, given that I prefer the sub to the dub (even though the dub is fairly okay), I’d be fine with a blu-ray release with subtitles XD

I have to say the fact that the mangaka is going to be involved with the story and visual design really gives me some hope for this. At least more than if some random person was writing it. Seems like a ton of anime movies like this can be pretty weak, but with the best possible person writing the plot it should be good in that respect.

Of course actually getting to see the movie is really far off in the future so probably won’t think much about it until then.

    • setsuken

Indeed, it is quite far away.

I am happy, like you, that the original Mangaka has a huge role to play in the movie. You can definitely expect something good will come out of that! =D

    EPIC

did you notice that Eclair has only one stone? In other descriptions it says that there are two stones so I think that Fairy Tail will have a request to go and look for the second one…

    • setsuken

I’m sure you’re right on the mark with the idea. The story seems pretty simple, I’m curious to see how well they pull it off.

  • Ajmonkeygirl99

I heard that Natsu and Lucy KISS in the movie….but you can’t really trust what others say sometimes, still it’s nice to dream. I cannot wait for this thing to come out!!! (In English) I’ll probably watch the Japan version anyway. Plus my main source for fairy tail (Fairytailonline.tv) something like that…Well they might sub the movie asap…so yeah…

    • setsuken

Now I definitely have to agree with the whole notion of not trusting what others say, especially in this case. While I’m one of the diehard Natsu x Lucy fan, I’m extremely skeptical about them pulling such a huge development in a movie. If anything, that would be a HUGE change in the dynamic between Natsu and Lucy and the after shock waves would be felt within the entire franchise.

It’ll be a while before we see the movie unfortunately, as the earliest we could probably get it is when it comes out in Japan on DVD and Blu-ray, which is around half a year after the movie generally comes out in theaters.

You know, I’m really glad that Mashima-sensei is so involved in the movie process. I’m really excited for it; he’s always been involved in all the fillers in the anime, too, so it’s not like…certain other animes whose fillers are…strange to say the least. I know we’re gonna be in for something great; something that we could actually see happening in the Fairy Tail world. Mashima knows what he’s doing, so I’m very much looking forwards to this movie!

when exactly is it supposed to come out?
