C3 is this season’s Fantasy High school Tsundere and potentially harem anime. Telling the tale of a cursed girl stuck in a cube that gets delivered to some boy’s house where she has to do things to become un-cursed! Is it another cookie cutter cutesy high school anime or something unique?

I was really excited when I first heard about this show. What’s not to love about a cursed girl stuck in a cube that gets delivered to some boy’s house where she has to do things to become un-cursed? Okay, that was a blatant lie. But I wasn’t lying when I said I was excited for this show; the synopsis made it sound waaaaaaay better than the show actually was. Fear (the girl who supposedly is cursed) is annoying and reminds me of Astarotte from Astarotte no Omacha! (maybe it’s the voice?) but isn’t nearly as cute and cuddly as the child succubus. She’s loud, obnoxious and constantly threatens to curse people who are just being nice to her. Haruaki obviously knows exactly what’s going on and isn’t phased by anything, but that’s disconcerting on it’s own level. And then when you throw in his childhood friend Konoha, who obviously has feelings for him, things get insane. And not in a good way. I can definitely see how Fear’s super-mega-tsundere act can be appealing to people, but it just grates on my nerves. Despite that, I may give it another shot, just to make sure I’m not giving up on something with what could be an awesome plot. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s the case with this one.
Setsuken: (Impressions: Passable)
C3 is a show that you will either like or hate based on your expectations for the show. I expected a really horrible, gratingly annoying show with the classic tropes of characters and genre cliches. I expected something really bad, and well, I’ll say this much, it’s not the worst I’ve ever seen. In an industry that’s littered with cutesy characters and the same basic cliche plot of some weird Tsundere chick ending up at some guy’s house who lives on his own… Honestly, I don’t see what you’d lose if you skipped this one entirely. People who love these kind of shows will like this, but I’ll bet 10 bucks that you probably won’t remember this one after the season is over.
Its cliche, unoriginal and far from memorable. At the same time, its not the worst offender of said faults, and the main character is actually kind of nice. All in all though, I don’t really see why you’d want to waste your time with this, when there are so many other awesome shows this season.
Sweety (Impression: Pass)
From the synop, I was expecting a more interesting and fun show. But this…em…yeah, I’ll just pass. Its the bad kinda cliched. I like a good cliche if its done well but this isn’t done well. Plus, the art isn’t anything to write home to either. I mean, it just comes across as a mediocre show all in all. Makes me think that they tried to stick too many things together and it comes across as a mess. I mean…what kinda show is this supposed to be? The synopsis kinda implied of a more action slanted show with a hint of ecchi. After watching it, it comes across as more of a comedy-gag show with ecchi. And whats with all those effects? I mean, that…tendril sparkly thingie effect? What was going on in the mind of the director? I am genuinely curious what the thought process was behind the production cause….LORDY this feels like a right mess. In terms of characters, this kinda tsundere is really not my cuppa. Neither is that kinda childhood friend either.
FlareKnight (Impression: Alright)
I thought it was a fine first episode. Though I’m still going to need a few episodes to really get a feel for the kind of series we are getting into. Some serious topics like cursed objects and comical things like Fear’s battle against the spider. Certainly felt like some cliches were in play though. Still unless the summary was a total lie I have to think more episodes will show a different side to the show. Not sure why they’d go that route since you risk alienating those who don’t like this kind of first episode. I’ll say the lead guy seems pretty nice and yet still willing to react if he’s being mistreated. Suppose that’s expected by someone resistant to curses, has to be resistant to a lot of things. Fear is a girl who clearly hasn’t interacted with people in normal ways. It may be cliche, but have to judge her base on that. Can’t really deny that her “I’ll curse you” line is strangely cute.
Anyways I’d agree if you were overwhelmed by anime this first episode doesn’t encourage adding to that burden. Still I can’t say don’t watch since the last few scenes and summary seem to indicate it’s going to get more interesting.
Overall, a definite pass from my side. There are better shows out there this season which deserve attention.
