Opinions: (B+)

A decent if somewhat drawn out episode this week. I don’t know if its just me, but the episodes are beginning to feel to a bit too short and in the sense that not a lot is happening and at the same time, too many things are happening at the same time. This episode has the odd mix of feeling fast paced and very chaotic, with some things happening waay too fast, while others not taking nearly enough time.

In this episode, we got a battle royale with Two Fairy Tails and the royal kingdom, we got continued coverage of the Faust vs three dragon slayers, the epic clash between the two Erzas came to an end and we also had the reveal of Mystogan’s big plan. This was a lot of stuff  to fit into one episode, and a part of me kinda wished that Fairy Tail just decided to focus on one issue this episode and do it properly, instead of cycling back between four different things and not giving enough time any of them.

THIS IS SPARTAAAA!!!!

That said though, this episode did have quite a few awesome moments as well. Firstly, it was great to see Edolas Fairy Tail finally come out of hiding and actually fight for their world. I’ve been very disappointed by how cowardly Edolas Fairy Tail has behaved thus far, so it was nice to see them actually take some charge and fight for THEIR world. The meeting between the different versions was kind of funny. Both Grays obviously did not get along much at all, and it seems no matter world we’re in, Lucy will not be interested in Loke XD

He is SO not her boyfriend! Poor Loke! XD

The battle royale was nice, and it definitely showed some of Edolas Fairy Tail’s good side. I’m just puzzled why they didn’t go out fighting to begin with, but what’s done is done I guess. While the major battle was fought on the ground, we had another huge battle above, on a floating Island.

Erza versus Erza was a pretty decent battle. It wasn’t as much of a physical battle as a lot of us were probably hoping for, but was more of an ideological battle. Fighting ability wise, both Erzas were pretty much equal. So what it went down to, was strength of character and will. Earthland Erza definitely had that, since she’d been around people that cared for her and who she cared for. In the end,  she managed to win 0ver Knightwalker, who ended up crying after realizing that Scarlet was right:

I’m sure some Shoujo-ai doujin is gonna creep up online cause of this!

We got a bit off a look at the Faust versus Natsu, Gajeel and Wendy fight, but honestly I don’t even know why they bothered to show us that scene. It was probably designed to stretch out the episode, and it felt totally unnecessary. We all know Natsu and Gajeel are itching to break that Dragon mech, and that Faust is crazy XD. So all in all, the flashes where we saw Faust and Natsu’s group exchange blows and words were mostly unimportant. I’m sure we’ll get a nice conclusion to the battle next episode, since nearly everything else is done.

Its Elementary my dear Watson!

At the near end of the episode, we finally found what Mystogan was up to. I gotta say, this idea is definitely a smart one. Instead of relying on Magic, I’m sure Edolas could benefit from science and find its own way to exist. The magic thing is so totally not working for them, to the point where its just causing them to destroy each other. I think Mystogan has quite the foresight to just remove magic altogether and fix his world that way. I do wonder how Natsu and co are going to get back if Edolas loses all its magic. I guess they’ll just get sucked into the Anima? Before that though, I’m sure we’ll see the Dragon slayers take down Faust next episode!

Preview:

Anima is reversed and the battle with Faust takes the center stage next week! See you then! =D

    (sigh)
Seriously….fillers now are getting too creepy. The part when the Edolas FT was discussing what to do is filler. Kinda unnecessary. I mean, is thanks to that Erza VS Erza was been cut. It was longer in the manga version. Oh well….
Wait, what the….??? The dormi anima got a new form when changed of color?? WHAT????? IN THE MANGA IT ONLY CHANGED OF COLOR, NOT GUNDAN WINGED IT! Pff…
Well, the episode wasn’t made up of lame only fortunately. I was waiting to see the interaction between the Grays and it did to let me chuckle, lol

Next episode will conclude the dragon slayers vs psycho old fart fight. (hehehe)

    Misty is teh smartass :P
Seems like he didn’t spend time enough in the guild to it stupidity contaminate him, XD

However the “ANIMAAAAAAAA” part from the second OVA made me think about it again, ahahah.

You saw the first part of his plan. The second part will be revealed next episode and probably you will facepalm about it :P

That kind of really disappointing me. I feel like the whole meeting to decide what happens should’ve happened ages ago, or off screen entirely. I just think the animators wanted to show more Lisanna. That does seem to be a huge obsession of theirs XD

I would’ve liked to see the full battle between the Two Erzas, I’m really sad that it cut down so they could add a filler XD

Mystogan was never really there in terms of the guild, so I guess the only people he interacted with were Makarov and Laxus. I look forward to seeing his second plan.

Oh almost forgot, Loki’s heartbroken part (lol) is also filler. That was just too bad, XD

About Lisanna, it’s elementary my dear Watson, told ya! (I loved that quote from your summary)

        Again, ANIMAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

The second plan will be revealed in the end of next episode. Don’t drink your tea in that time, cuz made think wrong about Mystogan, lol

I’ll say it’s a good move by Mystogan here. Magic is just so limited that they have to figure something else out. Really I thought he might have found an isolated part of Earthland that had no life so they could use that with Anima, but it really wouldn’t be a long term solution anyways. If magic isn’t going to last there then they might as well stop clinging to it and find another way.

At least there was some fighting with Erza vs Erza. It did turn out to be more ideological and of course our Erza is stronger in heart than Knightwalker. Long term Erza would have the advantage over Knightwalker since recovering enough magic to use armor would happen before Knightwalker could get her weapon fixed.

Guess beating Faust will rely on buying some time until Mystogan starts up his plan. If they remove the magic then Faust won’t have anything to power his dragon and they can just crush him. Will have to quickly leave though so they don’t get trapped.

Poor Loke, shot down by Edolas Lucy :) . You still have some hope man XD.

    • Setsuken

This is true. I have a feeling that Faust isn’t going to be taken down by just removing magic from Edolas. That will be a really anti-climactic way to end the fight XD

Its interesting, but if Edolas loses its magic, it becomes more or less similar to our own world, which relies on science rather than magic.

I think no matter what world, Loke will lose out Natsu as far as Lucy goes XD

      • http://xebek.animeblogger.net/ FlareKnight

Yeah I think it’d be silly if Faust was just shut down by the magic being taken away. Now I could see him getting weakened which could open up for a dragon slayer combo to finish him after the magic drain created an opening.

Since we have our world as a reference we can say that the people in Edolas would be just fine. Not having magic wouldn’t be the end of the world. They’d have to adapt (wonder if the Exceed would still have magic inside of them or if that also would be drained), but not like it isn’t possible to survive just fine.

Haha poor Loke. I can’t count him out since who knows how things would turn out for Lucy. Not that this is the kind of series I expect ever to see something definite. Think Natsu would have the advantage, but Loke isn’t completely out of it. His playboy kind of actions might set him back at times, but his positive qualities get through to Lucy it seems.

Personally, I liked this episode a lot. It was mostly filler to add the Edolas Fairy Tail in, I agree. BUT, despite it being filler to add them in, I still loved that they were added in. I can’t remember exactly if there was a lot of them debating in the Manga chapter(s) that this episode represents, but I know that everything was basically the same plot-wise as the manga (them joining the battle and all that jazz). I liked that they added the Edolas Fairy Tail’s decision making in this episode though, as it shows that even though they are opposites of their Earthland counterparts, they are still Fairy Tail, and they still have the whole “Fight to protect the world and our precious Nakama” thing going on. ^____^ It also added a lot of drama to the episode in a way. The plot hardly moved forward, but yet it felt as if the plot moved forward a lot while the episode was going on. It was mostly to show that Fairy Tail in Edolas is not a guild that fights normally, but the presence of their Earthland counterparts is showing them that they have the potential to change the world. As for the idea that the Erza Vs Erza fight suffered in this episode… I COMPLETELY disagree! xD The Manga didn’t have even this much Erza Vs Erza if I remember correctly. There was not too much more action in the episode than the manga for this part, but it felt like more to me.
