Kamisama Dolls is this season’s odd series that’s actually pretty good. Featuring a likeable hero with a dark past, some secret village ritual and Mech like robots that act as familiars for the characters. Add some gorgeous animation from Brain’s Base and you have a recipe for? Awesome…

I think one thing that this series has going against it as far as new viewers are concerned, is the synopsis. The Synopsis makes it look like some weird murder mystery show, but Kamisama dolls is so much more than just a simple murder, revenge show. You have your mech like familiars for the characters, and you have a very interesting and relatable main character.

What I love about this show is that its actually set in college, as opposed to the overly done high school setting. YES YES YES! More adult characters ftw. The story is intriguing, and the characters are awesome. My only question is whether the main character gets his own doll or not, and that will probably determine whetther I love the series or just like it XD. Either way, this was a pleasant surprise this season!

Initially, I thought this would be a horrible show trying to balance way too much cutesy antics, Onii-chan complexes and action.  Thank God the PVs didn’t do this show justice.  It was a well-balanced first episode with a bit of action, cute college antics of drinking until you pass out after getting rejected by the girl you like and the main characters little sister showing up out of nowhere.  What really intrigued me is the history of the main character’s village.  Why do they have Kamisama Dolls?  What’s the purpose of having them?  So many questions!  This is a definite “must watch” for me, if only to get my questions answered.

Oddly enough I kind of thought it’d be better for this series to base itself on the cast when they were kids. I mean it’s good to have more anime characters as college students, but still has to be well done. The main character from the bits we’ve seen seems to have gone from a pretty cool kid to a fairly submissive adult. Hopefully the guy can step up, since if he’s not a solid character it weakens the show.

Honestly I wonder if the lead is going to take back the Kamisama Doll from his sister eventually. Seems like he was the original user before he stopped (due to previous events). His sister isn’t that bad, but clearly she’s not the first choice of the village for using it.

A promising first episode though. Should be interesting to see how it turns out.
