Funimation has confirmed that they have licensed the home entertainment, digital, merchandise, and mobile rights for the Ga- Rei Zero anime series from Kadokawa, and plan to release the complete series on Blu-ray and DVD in early 2010!

Ga-Rei Zero serves as a prequel to the manga “Ga-Rei” by Hajime Segawa and tells the tale of one of the series villain’s Yomi‘s fall from grace and her transformation from series heroine Kagura’s best friend to deadly enemy.

Funimation’s official Synopsis is:

An elite squadron trained to combat supernatural forces is called in to investigate reports of invisible monsters terrorizing Tokyo, but their mission is complicated by the interference of a rogue exorcist. When the mysterious female slaughters the overmatched attack force, her former comrades are ordered to lock down the crime scene – and forever silence their old friend.

Ga-Rei Zero is actually a pretty old series now, having aired on Japanese Telivision in Late 2008, and it seems like its about time that this series got a DVD release. Personally, I’m all for the Blu-Ray release and will be picking it up when its out!
