Gonzo and Kadokawa Shoten announced at Interop Tokyo 2008 that they’ll be collaborating to offer free previews of some of their works– including the entirety of Romeo x Juliet –via BitTorrent. Now THAT is impressive. To make matters even more awesome, the anime’s offered in 720p too. It’s also available for streaming.

Of course, the downside is that this service is only available for the anime fandom of Japan (for now…). The downloads also require a program called BitTorrent DNA.

Now I gotta hand it to Gonzo, they’re a smart animation studio in some ways. While I’m rather annoyed at how they “attack” fansub groups and make them stop subbing shows (and this actually leads to a “decrease” of exposure for said anime), I am rather pleased with Gonzo’s efforts for digital distribution.

First they did the “pay for episodes with whatever amount you want” and watch “officially subtitled” anime on the same day as they air in Japan on various Video Streaming sites, and now this.
