If you’re one of those sad souls, who like myself, haven’t been following much news lately, due to exams, well there is ONE bit of news that is worth not missing.
Gainax, the studio behind masterpeices like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and the odd FLCL OVAs, are making a new series, slated for this Fall.
The new TV series, will be adapted from the Shounen manga “Shikabane Hime” (translated as “Corpse Princess”). The Corpse Princess in the story is Makina Hoshino, a undead girl who hunts down 108 corpses in order to go to heaven.
Also, Quoting Anime News Network:
Studio co-founder Hiroyuki Yamaga (The Wings of Honneamise, Otaku no Video, Abenobashi) and Gurren Lagann producer Yasuhiro Takeda will co-produce this adaptation of Yoshiichi Akahito‘s supernatural manga. Chikashi Kubota, an animation director on both The Girl Who Leapt through Time film and episode 14 and 24 of Gurren Lagann, is designing the characters including Makina.
Ahem, so while I’m impressed with Gainax and their recent stuff… I just dunno about this one. The characters look nice and all (and from the covers that I’ve posted above, it seems fanservice will be in the plenty) but uhhh… the whole “Undead killing other undead to go to Heaven” thing is so generic and overused. Of course, if Gainax grabbed this manga for adaption, it must have something special. The Intial impression though? Mediocre for me. Lets see how this goes.
